Meaning

Murugan is the younger son of Shiva and Parvati, worshipped especially in Tamil Nadu, where he is the presiding deity of the hills and of Tamil itself. He carries the vel, the spear his mother gave him, rides a peacock, and is attended by the rooster on his banner. He answers to many names in lyrics and you will meet all of them: Muruga, Guha (the one in the cave of the heart), Shanmuga (six-faced), Saravanabhava (born in the reed grove), Kartikeya, Subrahmanya, Velan and Kandan. A song may switch between several within a few lines.
