Meaning
Attributed to the sage Bharata and generally dated between roughly 200 BCE and 200 CE, the Natyashastra is the earliest comprehensive treatise on drama, dance and music in the Indian tradition. It sets out theory and practice — the stage, gesture, movement, costume, music and the theory of rasa — and every classical form traces authority to it.
