Alaknanda Dasgupta is an internationally acclaimed Kathak exponent and art curator based in New Delhi, India. Her journey in Kathak began at the age of six, deeply influenced by legendary dancers like Pandit Birju Maharaj, who was one of her first dance masters alongside Guru Munna Shukla and Swapnasundari. She received rigorous training at Kathak Kendra and is widely regarded as a leading expert in abhinaya (acting), bhava (emotion), and vaachan (storytelling). Dasgupta has been performing on stage for over three decades, with a career spanning 40 years of national scholarships and honorary titles. She is the founder and director of the Alaknanda Institute of Performing Arts, which she has been running for 32 years as of 2023, making it one of the largest performing arts institutes and examination centers in the NCR region. Beyond her artistic contributions, Dasgupta has served as the State Icon for the Election Commission of New Delhi since 2019 and has been the Brand Ambassador for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan since 2021. Her inspiring journey also includes battling cancer, a challenge she has faced with remarkable resilience, continuing to perform even during chemotherapy sessions, demonstrating her unwavering passion for dance.
