🪔 About
Alana Rajah is an eminent Indian classical dancer and teacher specializing in Bharatanatyam, based in Trinidad and Tobago. She commenced her formal training in Bharatanatyam at the Trinidad School of Indian Dance, where she studied for ten years under the tutelage of Mr. Rajkumar Krishna Persad. Seeking a more profound understanding of the art form, Rajah traveled to India in 2010 and enrolled in a rigorous four-year diploma program in Bharatanatyam at the world-renowned Kalakshetra Foundation, The Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts, in Tamil Nadu. She completed her diploma in 2014, having been guided by esteemed gurus such as Sri KM. Jayakrishnan, Sri K. Mohanan, Smt. Nirmala Nagaraj, Sri Rakesh KP, and Smt. Bragga Bassel. Upon her return to Trinidad in 2014, Alana Rajah performed her Bharatanatyam kacheri (solo recital) first in New York and subsequently in Trinidad. She is the founder of the Adavallan Art Academy in Chaguanas, Trinidad, where she is dedicated to preserving Bharatanatyam in its authentic state and fostering appreciation for this ancient Indian classical dance form. Rajah emphasizes a holistic educational approach, integrating the cultural and spiritual heritage of Hinduism with dance instruction. Awards & Honours: Felicitated by Renowned Artiste Dr. Rajkumar Krishna Persad and H.E Bishwadip Dey (2019).
