Amit Chowdhury is a talented Bangladeshi Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher, recognized for his contributions to Indian classical dance. He began his dance journey at an early age, receiving initial training from Rajdwip Banarjee, Guru Runu Biswas, and the Chittagong Shilpakala Academy in Bangladesh. Furthering his education, he pursued and successfully completed a Bachelor of Arts in Bharatanatyam with a first-class distinction in 2008, followed by a Master of Arts in Bharatanatyam Dance in 2010, both from Rabindra Bharati University in India. He also trained under Srimati Kirti Ramgopal in Bangalore. Chowdhury has established himself as a prominent figure in the dance community through his performances, teaching, and choreographic work. He serves as a choreographer for Shadhona, a leading dance organization in Bangladesh, and has conducted several Tagore Dance Dramas, including "Mayar Khela," "Fireflies," and "Aai Amader Aongone," under their supervision. He also played the main role in Tagore's 'Tasher Desh' for Shadhona, performing in Kolkata, Santiniketan, and Delhi. Academically, Amit Chowdhury holds positions as a lecturer at Shanto Mariam University (Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology Dance Department) and a guest teacher in the Department of Theater and Performing Studies at Dhaka University. He joined the University of Dhaka as a Demonstrator in 2016 and was promoted to Senior Demonstrator on June 28, 2020. His performance career includes appearances at prestigious events such as the Khajuraho Dance Festival in 2017, the Bengal Classical Music Festival in 2014 and 2017, the 28th Shantala Nritya Vaibhava in Bangalore in 2016, and the Uday Shankar Dance Festival in 2008. He was honored with the "Sringer Moni" title at the 49th Kal Ke Kalakar dance festival in Mumbai in 2010 for his outstanding Bharatanatyam performance. Committed to nurturing the next generation of dancers, Chowdhury founded Kaya Ashram, a Bharatanatyam dance-based school, on October 6, 2017. He also teaches at Kalpataru Dance School. His student, Arthy Ahmed, has trained with Shadhona under his guidance. Awards & Honours: Sringer Moni (2010).
