Amrita Banerjee is an accomplished Indian classical dancer specializing in Odissi, with over 30 years of international experience in choreography, performance, and teaching. She was educated in Santiniketan, India, a renowned institution where art, music, and dance were integral to education and life. Her training in Odissi included extensive cultural research into the Mahari tradition of dance, which refers to the temple Yoginis of Orissa, and she received guidance from gurus such as Guru Chittaranjan Achareya and Sashimani Mahari. Beyond Odissi, Amrita Banerjee also specializes in Rajasthani Gypsy dance, sacred dance traditions, folk dance, Bollywood dance, and modern dance. She is also a certified Yoga teacher, incorporating Mudras, Tantra/Kundalini practices, Pranayama, and meditation into her work. She is the founder of Nrityoga®, a unique discipline that integrates ancient yoga, sacred dance, and meditation practices for healing and well-being. Through Nrityoga®, she conducts workshops focused on wellness of the body, mind, and spirit. Amrita Banerjee has performed and taught across North and South America, Europe, and Asia. Her choreographic works have been presented internationally, and she regularly performs at festivals, conferences, and educational institutions. She has collaborated with significant artistic and cultural organizations, including Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, TED talks, and The Banff Centre for the Arts. She has also performed for BBC Radio 2. Holding a degree in Anthropology, she has dedicated her life to performance and research, particularly in indigenous dance and music traditions, with her work on the Kalbeliya people being notable in the Canadian dance milieu.
