🪔 About
Smt. Anjali Padmakumar is a distinguished exponent of the Vazhavoor style of Bharatanatyam and the Artistic Director of the Natyanjani School of Dance. Her profound journey in Bharatanatyam commenced at the tender age of five, under the meticulous tutelage of Vidushi Smt. Hemalatha Prakash, a revered disciple of Guru B. Bhanumati. Born in Kerala and raised in Bangalore, India, Anjali initially pursued a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication from VTU University, subsequently working for an MNC for three years. However, her unwavering passion for dance ultimately led her back to the classical art form, culminating in the establishment of the Natyanjani School of Dance in 2015. Anjali Padmakumar has earned recognition as a Grade B Doordarshan Artist, a testament to her exceptional skill and dedication to Bharatanatyam. Her captivating performances have graced numerous esteemed stages across India, including the sacred Guruvayoor Sri Krishna Temple, Udupi Sri Krishna Temple, Thiruvarapetti Mahadeva Temple, and the prestigious Natyanjani Festival at Chidambaram Nataraja Temple. Demonstrating her international reach, she has also had the honor of performing at the Indian Classical Dance Concert in Munich, Germany. In acknowledgment of her significant contributions to Bharatanatyam, Anjali was felicitated with the prestigious Vrindrani Award by The Lasya Company, powered by IBC Channel, in 2021. The Natyanjani School of Dance, under her artistic direction, operates with active branches in Bengaluru, India, and is primarily based in Utrecht, Netherlands, reflecting her commitment to propagating the art form globally. During the challenging period of the 2020 pandemic, Anjali adeptly adapted by launching a successful YouTube channel. One of her videos notably garnered approximately two lakh views, contributing to her current subscriber base of around 8,000, showcasing her ability to connect with a wider audience and continue her teaching legacy through digital platforms. Through her school and online presence, she continues to inspire and nurture the next generation of Bharatanatyam dancers, emphasizing the purity and rich traditions of this ancient dance form.
