Anjana Anand

Anjana Anand is an accomplished Indian classical dancer specializing in Bharatanatyam. Born in Mysore, she spent parts of her childhood in New York and Singapore before moving to Kalakshetra in Chennai for her dance training. She is an alumna of the esteemed Kalakshetra Foundation, where she received her diploma. Anand is known for her solo performances, which she undertakes regularly, aiming for two to three per year, including a notable performance at the Music Academy in 2017. Beyond her performance career, Anjana Anand is also a dedicated researcher and academic. She completed her Doctoral thesis on Bharatanatyam and Shringara Rasa under the guidance of Prof. S. Raghuraman from Bharathiar University, submitting it around 2021. Her research has informed her writings on dance and music, as well as her reviews and analyses. She has also presented lecture-demonstrations on various aspects of Bharatanatyam and Tamil literature, such as the 'Kaanalvarippadalkal' from Silappathikaaram and concepts like Tandava, Lasya, and Abhinaya. Anjana Anand was empanelled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in 2004. She has collaborated on productions such as “Fire & Ash” which toured Singapore and the US. She currently works at the Sahrdaya Foundation. Awards & Honours: ICCR Yuva Mitra Prize.
