Anjana Dasu

Anjana Dasu is an accomplished Bharatanatyam and Odissi dancer, choreographer, and teacher primarily based in San José, California. She began her Bharatanatyam training at the age of nine under the tutelage of Mythili Kumar, the Artistic Director of Abhinaya Dance Company of San José, for over a decade. Dasu performed her Arangetram (solo debut) in 2005. Her mother was also a dancer in India. As a senior company dancer with Abhinaya Dance Company, Anjana Dasu has performed extensively in numerous productions and toured across the United States, including New York, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Utah, St. Louis, Boston, and Indianapolis. She has also graced the stage at the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival in 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011. Beyond performing, Dasu is a prolific choreographer, having composed numerous jathis and choreographed items for both solo and group performances featured in Abhinaya's productions since 2005, such as 'Saakhyam' (2005), 'Ritusamhara' (2006), 'Prithvi – The Earth' (2007), 'Rivers – A Mystical Journey' (2008), 'Nritya Sangati – Dance Progressions' (2009), 'Jwala – The Immortal Flame' (2011), 'Gandhi' (2012), 'Arjuna' (2014), 'Nritya Dhaara' (2015), and 'Vanara Leela – monkeys in the Ramayana' (2016). In January 2020, she was appointed as the Director of Abhinaya's newly launched Junior Dance Company. Anjana Dasu's talent has also been recognized internationally; in December 2011, she gave a solo Bharatanatyam recital in Chennai, India, which was reviewed by The Hindu, noting her adherence to tradition and clarity in expression. She is also known to coach students for their Arangetrams.
