Anne Dietrich is a German dancer, choreographer, and educator renowned for her expertise in Indian classical dance forms, particularly Mohiniyattam and Kathak, alongside her background in contemporary dance. Born in Eulitz, Saxony, East Germany, she began her dance journey at age four with classical ballet and later contemporary dance, also receiving training in piano, singing, and music notation. Her profound interest in Indian culture led her to India in 2005, at the age of 24, where she received a scholarship to study Mohiniyattam at the prestigious Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed to be University for Art and Culture under the rigorous guidance of Prof. Kalamandalam Leelamma. Dietrich further deepened her Mohiniyattam training with Padmashree Bharati Shivaji in New Delhi and, since 2010, at Lasya Akademi under Pallavi Krishnan. In 2009, she began intensive training in the North Indian classical dance style of Kathak with Guru Smt. Geetanjali Lal in Delhi. Her artistic work bridges Indian classical forms with contemporary expression, fostering intercultural dialogue through movement. She emphasizes the importance of rigorous training, discipline, and the guru-shishya-parampara. Anne Dietrich has performed extensively across India, Switzerland, Indonesia, America, Europe, and Russia. She is a faculty member at India's National School of Drama since 2018, shaping future artists. In Germany, she co-founded TanzART – Center for Dance, Movement and Art in 2013, promoting contemporary, interdisciplinary, and intercultural projects. In 2021, she co-founded the Yenidze Theater in Dresden, Germany's first theater dedicated to Indian dance, music, and poetry. She also co-founded the German-Indian artist collectives Prateeksha and Atmadhvani. Awards & Honours: Denkzeit Scholarship (2020), Denkzeit Event Preis (2021).
