Asha Krishnakumar is a Bharatanatyam performer, teacher, and creative director known for her innovative multimedia dance productions. She received her training in Bharatanatyam under Guru Charu Narasimhan. While based in the USA, Asha Krishnakumar is actively involved in the Indian classical dance scene, particularly in Chennai, India, where she stages her productions. She is the creative force behind Darshanam Art Creations, a platform through which she conceptualizes and presents large-scale dance ballets. Her work often focuses on exploring the rich history, mythology, legends, folklore, architecture, and inscriptions of Vaishnava temples. These productions are characterized by their immersive experience, blending classical Bharatanatyam with folk elements and dramatic narration. Notable productions include 'Vaikundam-Vaishnava Yatra' in 2014, a dance ballet based on the Nalayira Divya Prabandham, and 'Kallazhagar, the most beautiful God of Tirumaliruncholai' in 2023, which recreated the festivities of the Tirumaliruncholai temple. Her productions involve collaborations with renowned artists such as Rajkumar Bharati for music composition and Jayanthi Subramaniam for creative choreography. Students from institutions like Kala Darshana have participated in her productions, showcasing her role in fostering the next generation of dancers.
