Vid. Balasubramanya Sharma is a highly regarded Carnatic vocalist and a sought-after accompanist for Bharatanatyam performances. Hailing from a traditional family in Kaiwara, Karnataka, he began his journey in Carnatic music at the tender age of seven. His initial training was under his father, Shri. Kai-pu Lakshminarasimha Sastry, followed by tutelage under Vidwan Salem P. Sundaresan. Sharma's dedication to his art was recognized early on with scholarships from the Central Government and the Dr. Subbaramaiah Cultural Trust. Throughout his extensive career, Balasubramanya Sharma has toured widely, performing in the US, UK, Europe, Canada, and Singapore for arangetrams, lecture-demonstrations, and music concerts. He is known for his compositions, having created lyrics for various dance items and music for dance ballets, varnams, padams, javalis, and thillanas. He has also lent his voice to TV serials and classical albums. Based in Bangalore, India, Balasubramanya Sharma has made a significant mark by providing live music support for numerous senior Bharatanatyam artists across India and internationally. He is the founder of 'Nadaroopini Foundation for Arts and Culture,' an organization dedicated to regularly conducting music festivals. His contributions to the arts have been acknowledged with several prestigious titles and awards, including KarnatakaKalashree (for 2021-2022, conferred on January 14, 2022), Sangeetharnava, and Kalyogi. He has also received awards from international organizations such as ICCR (Fiji) and Triveni Academy (France), as well as Sri. Gurudev Lalit Academy (Mandya). Sharma has also enriched his musical knowledge by completing a senior examination in Mridangam, which he states has aided him in his compositions.
