🪔 About
Bhavajan Kumar is a sensitive and acclaimed Bharatanatyam dancer, born in Canada, whose profound passion for the art form led him to India to pursue advanced training. He began performing Bharatanatyam at the tender age of five. After completing high school, he made the significant decision to move to India, foregoing university studies in Canada, to dedicate himself entirely to dance. Kumar has had the privilege of training under some of the most celebrated exponents of Bharatanatyam. His primary gurus include Padmasri Leela Samson and Jyotsna Narayanan, under whom he has matured as an artist. He also received tutelage from Gurus Sri Shijith Nambiar and Parvathy Shijith (Kalakshetra), and Smt. Bragha Bessell. Furthermore, he has had the opportunity to learn from and work with illustrious figures such as Padma Bhushan Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam, Padma Shri Prof. Sudharani Raghupathy, Smt. Rhadha, Smt. Ambika Buch, Prof. C.V. Chandrasekhar, Smt. Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala, Smt. Jayanthi Subramaniam, Smt. Anitha Guha, and Smt. Savithri Jagannatha Rao. He completed his Arangetram in 2006. Kumar is recognized for his captivating stage presence, precision in movement, and deep devotion to Bharatanatyam, presenting the art with sincerity and preserving its spiritual essence. His dance style is rooted in the Pandanallur tradition, later evolving into the Kalakshetra style, with unique embellishments from his guru Leela Samson. Bhavajan Kumar has performed extensively across India, Canada, the U.S.A., and Europe, gracing prestigious platforms such as Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, The Music Academy Madras, Narada Gana Sabha, and the Soorya Festival.
