🪔 About
Bhuvana Venkatesh is a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and teacher, recognized for her profound dedication to preserving and propagating the art form. Her journey in Bharatanatyam began at the tender age of five, under the tutelage of 'Saahithya Shiromani' Guru Smt. Prabha Nagarajan. She made her solo debut performance (Arangetram) in 1986 at the Mylapore Fine Arts Academy in Chennai, India. Bhuvana Venkatesh has also received training in the basic elements of Karanas, including Charis, Sthanas, and Hastha Karanas, and a complete Bharathanrithyam repertoire from Guru Smt. A. Vadivu Devi, a disciple of the legendary Dr. Padma Subramaniam, whom she considers her manasika Guru. Throughout her career, Bhuvana Venkatesh has performed extensively in various cultural centers and dance festivals across India and the United States. She has choreographed over 100 traditional Bharatanatyam repertoire items over the past 15 years. Beyond her performance career, she is the founder and artistic director of the Nrithya Nivedhan School of Dance. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes a holistic approach, incorporating mental and physical well-being, and instilling high morals and values in her students. Before dedicating herself full-time to dance, Bhuvana Venkatesh worked as a software engineer at Wipro in India and later at IBM in Silicon Valley for over a decade. During her undergraduate years, she also managed and trained over 100 students at her Guru's institution, Lalitha Kala Nilayam in Chennai, when her Guru moved to the US. Awards & Honours: City of San Jose's Commendation award (2017).
