C.P. Satyajit, also known as Satyajit Dhananjayan, is a distinguished Indian classical dancer, choreographer, and musician, primarily recognized for his contributions to Bharatanatyam. Born to the legendary dancing couple V.P. Dhananjayan and Shanta Dhananjayan, he inherited a profound passion for the performing arts. Satyajit made his arangetram (debut) in 1988 and has since performed Bharatanatyam extensively across India and internationally, including performances in London (1989), the U.S. (1990, 1992), Singapore (1991), and Japan, as well as at the Cuttack dance festival organized by the Sangeeth Natak Akademi. Beyond his illustrious performance career, Satyajit is an accomplished choreographer. He gained significant acclaim for his dance drama "Mounakkural," a work focusing on women's issues, which was commissioned by the British Council to commemorate the UN women's conference in Beijing. This production was later revisited and lauded for its contemporary relevance. More recently, he conceptualized and choreographed "Gandhi," a Bharatanatyam production that explores Mahatma Gandhi's life and philosophy through the intricate language of dance. Satyajit's artistic versatility extends to music, where he is a vocalist, Carnatic violinist, and percussionist. He has also engaged in modern dance workshops and collaborative choreographic projects, including one with a classical ballet dancer and a Flamenco dancer in Spain in 1995. In addition to his dance and musical pursuits, C.P. Satyajit is a professional photographer, specializing in advertising photography for various commercial products. He holds a degree in Visual Communication from Loyola College, Chennai. He is associated with Bharatakalanjali, the renowned academy of Indian classical dance and music founded by his parents in Chennai, and has been noted for his leadership within the institution.
