Carolin Goedeke, born in Munich, Germany in 1973, is an interdisciplinary artist with a significant background in Bharatanatyam. She pursued Fine Arts at HdK Berlin and Kunstakademie München from 1994 to 2000, earning a diploma in painting and graphic arts. Her journey into classical Indian dance began in 1999, studying Bharatanatyam at the R. Ramesh Academy for Performing Arts in Berlin until 2004. She further deepened her training through intensive studies in India, notably receiving a scholarship from the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in 2004-2005 to study at the Ponnaiah Lalitakala Academy in Bangalore under Padmini Rao. She also undertook intensive Bharatanatyam training under Smt. Savithri Jagannatha Rao in Chennai and Smt. Rajyashree Ramesh in Bangalore and Chennai. Goedeke performed Bharatanatyam professionally from 2000 to 2016, presenting both classical Indian dance and innovative choreographies. Her performances often integrated elements of fine arts such as video projections, masks, and puppets, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach. She performed at various venues including the Indian Embassy in Berlin, the International Festival of Arts in Bangalore, and the Ethnological Museum in Berlin. Beyond performance, Goedeke taught Indian Dance at studio a compas in Berlin and conducted workshops in visual arts and performance at significant cultural institutions in Berlin from 2000 to 2017, including the Museum of European Cultures and the Museum for Asian Art. After two decades in Berlin, she relocated to the Italian Riviera in 2017, where she continues her artistic practice as a freelance painter, illustrator, video artist, and clarinet performer, drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean and Italian culture. Her current work explores the interconnectedness between humans and nature, often incorporating her dance background into video installations.
