🪔 About
Carolina Prada is a Colombian dancer, martial artist, and educator renowned for her dedication to Indian classical dance, particularly Mayurbhanj Chhau and Odissi, as well as Kalaripayattu. Based in India since 2008, she is recognized internationally as a movement specialist, thriving performer, and devoted educator. Prada is the senior disciple of Sangeet Natak Academy awardee Guru Janmejoy Saibabu, under whom she has intensely trained in Mayurbhanj Chhau in Delhi and occasionally in the Mayurbhanj district. She also undertook a diploma course in Odissi under Priyambada Pattnaik, and has pursued studies under Padmashree Ranjana Gauhar. Prada is noted as one of the few female soloists performing Mayurbhanj Chhau, a traditionally male-dominated martial dance form, in both masculine and feminine styles. Her performances have garnered critical acclaim in national and international dance festivals. She actively researches, choreographs, and performs, striving to bring more exposure to Chhau and promote its growth. Before her immersion in Indian classical dance, Prada began her movement training in 2000, exploring disciplines such as Tai Chi Chuan, Aikido, Kung Fu, Capoeira, Belly dance, Mexican Aztec Dance, and Colombian swordsplay. She sees her role as a link between tradition and the contemporary world, representing an art form that can be approached by daring women.
