Chamundeeswari Kuppuswamy, also known as Chamu Kuppuswamy, is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer based in the United Kingdom. She is recognized as a trained and qualified practitioner of the classical Indian dance form, contributing to its presence and evolution in the UK. Kuppuswamy conducts her dance research and performance activities under the banner of Nandavana Dance, an initiative supported by Arts Council England. Her choreographic repertoire includes notable productions such as "Maya Mahal," which premiered at the Alchemy Festival in 2016, and "Chinnadevi – from dancer to Queen," a significant work that toured various London temples during 2019-2020, exploring cultural inquiry and connecting dance with sacred spaces. She is also noted as a traditional dance instructor and performer. In parallel with her artistic pursuits, Dr. Kuppuswamy maintains a prominent academic career. She serves as a Senior Lecturer in Law and holds the position of Global Economy Interdisciplinary Research Lead at the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. Her extensive academic background includes a PhD from the University of Sheffield, an MA in Security Studies from the University of Hull, and ML (International and Constitutional Law) and BL (Law) degrees from the University of Madras. As a Chevening Scholar from India, her legal scholarship focuses on international law, human rights, and environmental law, often intersecting with themes of traditional knowledge and global policy. While her academic achievements are widely documented, her dedication to Bharatanatyam as a performer, choreographer, and instructor underscores her multifaceted contributions to both legal scholarship and classical Indian arts.
