N. Dandayudhapani Pillai. She was the second wife of K. N. Dandayudhapani Pillai, a pioneering Indian classical dancer, choreographer, nattuvanar, and composer. Chandra Dhandayudhapani Pillai herself was a Bharatanatyam expert and teacher. She provided steadfast support in her husband's personal and artistic endeavors, and after his passing in 1974, she played a crucial role in preserving his distinctive Bharatanatyam style, known for its intricate rhythmic patterns and geometric precision. She continues to propagate his style. Chandra Dhandayudhapani Pillai was also a disciple of K. N. Dandayudhapani Pillai. Her younger sister, Suria Santhanam, is also a noted Bharatanatyam teacher. The family resided primarily in Chennai, India, where K. N. Dandayudhapani Pillai founded his institution, Natya Kalalayam.
