🪔 About

Deepa Anand is an accomplished Odissi dancer whose journey in Indian classical dance began in 1999. She is an alumna of the esteemed Temple of Fine Arts International, Malaysia, an institution known for its dedication to promoting classical arts. Her initial training in Odissi was under the tutelage of Geetha Shankaran Lam, who served as the Principal Odissi instructor at the Temple of Fine Arts International and is recognized as one of the early disciples of the celebrated Malaysian Odissi guru, Ramli Ibrahim. This foundational training provided Deepa Anand with a strong grounding in the Odissi tradition. Further enriching her artistic development, she had the significant opportunity to train under the internationally acclaimed Odissi maestro, Sujata Mohapatra, in August 2006, a period that undoubtedly deepened her understanding and command of the dance form. Throughout her career, Deepa Anand has actively engaged in performing and showcasing the Odissi style. She has been a prominent participant in several major productions staged by The Temple of Fine Arts, including notable presentations such as "Ramayana," "Odissi Odyssey," and "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Her commitment to sharing Odissi has led her to perform on various national and international stages, with appearances in countries including India, Sri Lanka, Australia, and Malaysia. In recognition of her artistic contributions and dedication to Odissi, Deepa Anand was bestowed with the title of "Nrityanjali" by the Temple of Fine Arts in 1996. Currently, Deepa Anand is identified as an Odissi performer based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and her presence in the classical dance community is further highlighted by her inclusion in the Narthaki archives. Her journey reflects a continuous engagement with the Odissi dance form, both as a student and a performer, contributing to its vibrant presence in Malaysia and beyond. Awards & Honours: Nrityanjali (1996).
