🪔 About
Dr. Boris Dutta is a prominent figure in the Indian classical dance form of Sattriya, hailing from a culturally rich family deeply rooted in the tradition. He is the son of the late Jibanjit Dutta of Garamur Sattra in Majuli, who was notably the first student of Guru Rasheswar Saikia Barbayan. Dr. Dutta has made significant contributions to Sattriya both as a performer and an academic. He holds a Ph.D. in performing arts and is distinguished as the only male Sattriya dancer to have cleared the UGC NTA NET. Currently, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Performing Art at Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya. His performances include pieces based on a Sloka from Bhagavat Purana, Gosain Pravesh Nach, and the 'tutoi' abhinaya "Madhu danava darana darana deva barang" in Ektaal, which references a Sanskrit hymn by Srimanta Sankaradeva. Dr. Dutta is also a respected researcher and lecturer, having delivered talks on the evolution of Sattriya dance from the Guru-Shishya parampara to an academic discipline at events such as the Nrityaparva 2024 organized by Sattriya Kendra.
