Dr. Dipanwita Sengupta is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, recognized as the Chief Mentor and Founder of Kaleidoscope Dance Academy (also known as Kaleidoscope Performing Arts) in Columbus, Ohio, USA. She is credited as a pioneer in introducing Indian Creative Dance, particularly in the Pt. Uday Shankar Style, to Ohio. Dr. Sengupta's artistic journey began in Kolkata, India, where she received extensive training from a young age in both Bharatanatyam and Indian Creative Dance. Among her influential mentors is Guru Shri Kohinoor Sen Barat, a globally renowned dance mentor and a pioneer in Creative Dance. Before dedicating herself fully to the performing arts, Dr. Sengupta pursued a successful academic career, earning a doctorate and conducting years of post-doctoral cancer research. She transitioned from science to dance, driven by her passion for movement, storytelling, and creation. Under her leadership, Kaleidoscope Dance Academy in Columbus, Ohio, has become the only institution in the state affiliated with "Sarba Bharatiya Sangeet – Sanskriti Parishad" (All India Music and Culture Council). The academy offers comprehensive learning in Indian Creative Dance and Bharatanatyam, alongside Folk, Rabindrik, and Semi Classical styles. As a prolific choreographer and performer, Dr. Sengupta has created numerous original productions that explore diverse themes. Her notable Creative Dance productions include "Dance to Destiny," "I Earth," "Voices of Silenced Women," "Beneath the Silence – An Artistic Protest Against Social Bullying," "Shakti Unbound," "Journey Towards Light," and "Lonely Sky — the life of a housewife across two eras." She has also presented the Bharatanatyam dance drama "Dasavatara," delving into the spiritual symbolism of Vishnu's ten incarnations. Furthermore, Dr. Sengupta has reimagined timeless works of Rabindranath Tagore, such as "Tasher Desh" and "Chandalika," through the medium of Creative Dance. She is a recipient of prestigious awards and honors from both the USA and Europe for her contributions to dance.
