Dr. Kavya Mathukumalli is an accomplished Indian classical dancer, choreographer, and scientist, known for her expertise in Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam. She received extensive training in Kuchipudi under Guru Harirama Murthy, Dr. Sathyapriya Ramana, and Guru Sailaja, following the legendary Vempati Chinna Satyam lineage. She also trained in Bharatanatyam under Dr. Lavanya Rajagopalan, the Artistic Director of Silambam Houston. Dr. Mathukumalli presented her Kuchipudi Arangetram and had her Bharatanatyam Ranga Pravhesham in 2026. Her career as a performer has taken her to stages across the world, including major festivals in India, Malaysia, and the U.S., such as the Khajuraho Dance Festival and the Miller Outdoor Theatre. She has performed lead roles in numerous prestigious dance festivals across India and showcased her art at the Barnstorm Dance Fest in 2024. She is also a graded Doordarshan artist and has been honored with the title 'Natya Ravali'. Dr. Mathukumalli joined Silambam Houston in 2021, where she expanded into teaching and choreography. She served as the Kuchipudi Director at Silambam Houston for three years and was the lead Kuchipudi choreographer for several of their major productions, including "Dance of the Cosmos" (2022), "Waking Up Free: India's Journey" (2023), and "Kavya: Poetry In Motion" (2026). Currently, she remains associated with Silambam Houston as a choreographer, faculty member, and performer. Her choreography has been featured in significant festivals like Barnstorm Dance Fest and See Chicago Dance. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Dr. Mathukumalli maintains a professional career as a scientist. She is a Senior Scientist at Thermo Fisher Scientific and has affiliations with the University of Houston for her research in pharmacology and medicinal chemistry. Awards & Honours: Natya Ravali.
