He holds the unique and significant distinction of being the first individual to be awarded a D.Lit in Odissi Dance from Sambalpur University, as well as the first to receive a Ph.D. in Odissi Dance from Utkal University. These pioneering academic achievements underscore his deep scholarly engagement and exceptional expertise in the art form, establishing him as a leading authority in both its theoretical and practical aspects. Referred to as a respected Guru and Professor, Dr. Behera is actively involved in the propagation and evolution of Odissi dance through teaching, choreography, and extensive research. He is closely associated with Nrutyashree, a prominent socio-cultural institution dedicated to the promotion of dance, music, and art. Through Nrutyashree, he directs and choreographs numerous Odissi performances, playing a pivotal role in nurturing new talent and presenting the classical form to a wider audience. His notable choreographic works include the "DASAVATAR I ODISSI DANCE I DIRECTED BY DR MANOJ KUMAR BEHERA I NRUTYASHREE" production, which exemplifies his artistic vision and commitment to preserving and evolving the Odissi repertoire. He has also choreographed for talented Odissi artists like Saisiddhi Mohanta. Dr. Behera's dedication to the art form extends to organizing and participating in various educational initiatives, such as Odissi workshops, including one organized by the Indian Dance Academy. Beyond his artistic and academic pursuits in dance, Dr. Behera holds the position of Dean for the School of Tribal Heritage and Tribal Indology at KISS Bhubaneswar, an institution located in his primary city of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.
