Dr. Pompi Paul is a renowned Indian classical Odissi dancer, choreographer, and educator from Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. Her journey in dance began with early training in Kathak under Guru Runu Bhattacharya. Following her guru's advice, she transitioned to Odissi, studying under the tutelage of Guru Poushali Mukherjee, a distinguished disciple of the legendary Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Dr. Paul holds a Ph.D. in Odissi from Rabindra Bharati University, where she also completed her Master's degree under Guru Muralidhar Majhi and her Ph.D. under Dr. Sruti Bandopadhay. Throughout her career, Dr. Paul has earned international acclaim for her graceful artistry and dedication to classical Indian dance, performing at prestigious national and international dance festivals across India, Europe, and SAARC nations, including the Swami Haridas Sammelan and Uday Shankar Dance Festival. She is an empanelled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, actively promoting India's rich heritage globally. From July 2019 to January 2022, she served as an Odissi Dance Teacher-cum-performer at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Bali, Indonesia, under the Consulate General of India and the Ministry of External Affairs, where she also presented Odissi at the G20 Summit in 2022. In 2008, Dr. Paul founded her dance school, “Kalpodip - A Tune of Indian Classical Dance,” in Jalpaiguri, with the mission to preserve and promote Indian classical dance and music among younger generations. Since 2012, she has organized the annual national classical dance and music festival, Kalpodip Utsav, which invites artists from across the country. She has also served as a Guest Lecturer at Rabindra Bharati University and Ananda Chandra Training College, and conducts workshops through SPICMACAY and IRCEN, even starting the SPICMACAY Jalpaiguri Chapter. Dr. Paul is also known for her choreography, including for the short film “Aahuti” (2019).
