Dr. Shobana Vankipuram is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer, educator, and a practicing physician, effectively bridging the worlds of science and art. Her journey in Bharatanatyam commenced at the tender age of four, laying a strong foundation in the classical Indian dance form. She received her initial training under eminent gurus including Smt. Chandrakala Jagannathan, Smt. Kalaivani Rajmohan, and Smt. Jaya Mani. Dr. Vankipuram continues to pursue advanced training, currently studying under the tutelage of the legendary Guru Smt. Shobana Bhalchandra. After dedicating several years to her medical career, family, and leadership roles, Dr. Vankipuram made a significant return to the performing stage, rediscovering her passion for dance. This experience deepened her conviction that art serves as a powerful medium for healing and self-renewal. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of Tejasvi Natyalaya, an institution she established to provide a nurturing space for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to connect with and explore Bharatanatyam. Her teaching philosophy at Tejasvi Natyalaya integrates rigorous classical training with a supportive environment, emphasizing precise technique, mindfulness, and emotional depth. Dr. Vankipuram is an active performer, having presented her work at various platforms, including the Indian Dance Festival held at the Dora Stratou Theatre in Athens, Greece. She also performed "Adhya Shakti," a Bharatanatyam presentation celebrating the divine feminine, guided by her guru Smt. Shobana Bhalchandra. Based in the Bay Area, California, Dr. Shobana Vankipuram is recognized for her dedication to preserving and promoting Bharatanatyam, blending tradition with a holistic and empowering perspective.
