Gurumayum Chandan Devi is an acclaimed Indian classical dancer, primarily recognized for her contributions to Manipuri dance. She received the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the year 2011, which was conferred in New Delhi on September 7, 2013, in recognition of her notable talent in Manipuri dance. The award included a citation and a cash prize of Rs 25,000. Chandan Devi is an alumna of the JN Manipur Dance Academy, where she earned a diploma in Ras and Laiharaoba dance. Her extensive training in various elements of Manipuri dance was guided by several eminent gurus, including Th Babu Singh, Th Suryamukhi Devi, Thauranisabi Devi, Th Chaotombi Singh, N Amusana Devi, and W Lokendrojit Singh. She also received training in the traditional Manipuri martial art form of Thang-ta under G Sana Sharma. Throughout her career, Gurumayum Chandan Devi has performed at numerous national and international events, showcasing her artistry and the rich heritage of Manipuri dance. She has taken on lead roles in various choreographies produced by the JNMDA, such as "Bidai," "Meghdoot," and "Khamnu." Beyond her classical dance performances, she has also garnered critical acclaim for her roles in Manipuri feature films, including "Helloy," "Laibak," and "Nagse Eigini." She is considered one of the famous Manipuri classical dancers, with her performances, such as "Basanta Barnaam," being featured on platforms like Doordarshan Imphal.
