Dr. Haripriya Namboodiri is a distinguished Indian classical dancer, renowned for her contributions to Kathakali, particularly as a full-time professional female artist in a traditionally male-dominated art form. Born in Tripunithura, Kerala, she hails from the Pullur Mana family, known for its Kathakali scholars and exponents, which fostered her early exposure to the art. Despite holding a post-graduate degree in chemistry and having worked as a chemistry teacher and boutique owner, Haripriya Namboodiri made a pivotal decision at the age of 24 to dedicate herself entirely to Kathakali in 1997. She embarked on rigorous training under three prominent gurus: RLV Damodara Pisharody in Tripunithura, Kalamandalam Vasu Pisharody in Palakkad/Coimbatore, and FACT Padmanabhan. Her arangetram took place in 1998, where she performed as Sathi in 'Dakshayagam' at the Cheranalloor Karthiyayani Temple in Kochi. Haripriya Namboodiri specializes in *sthree vesham* (female characterizations), portraying a diverse range of iconic roles such as Kunti, Rukmini, Sita, Damayanti, Poothana, and Lalitha. She is also noted for her ability to perform her own make-up for performances. Beyond her performances, she has contributed significantly to the academic understanding of Kathakali, completing her doctoral research on 'The Feminine in Kathakali' at Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University under the guidance of E.N. Narayanan. Her commitment to promoting Kathakali is evident through her role as a resource person for the 'Noorarangu' Kathakali awareness programme initiated by Kerala Kalamandalam and her involvement with cultural organizations like Tripunithura Kathakali Kendram and Vanitha Kathakali Sangham. She also compered the television show 'Kathakali Vettom' on Amrita channel. Dr. Haripriya Namboodiri maintains an active performing schedule, averaging about 100 performances annually.
