🪔 About

Hima Bindu Challa, often referred to as Hima Undavalli, is a distinguished exponent and guru of Kuchipudi, an Indian classical dance form. She commenced her rigorous training in Kuchipudi under the tutelage of the legendary maestro, Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam, in Chennai, India, where she dedicated over ten years to mastering the intricacies of the style. Following this extensive training, she further honed her skills under Mrs. Satyapriya Ramana, a senior disciple of Dr. Vempati. Throughout her career, Hima Bindu Challa has graced numerous prestigious stages in India and internationally. Her early achievements include winning a national award at the Inter-University National Youth Festival in 1988. She made her international debut at the Festival of India in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 1996, where her performances garnered positive reviews from leading critics and magazines. In 1998, she toured the USA alongside her guru, Dr. Vempati, participating in significant Kuchipudi dance ballets such as “Ardha Naareewara,” “Saakuntalam,” and “Srinivasa Kalyanam.” Her notable performances also include the Siddhendra Jayanthi dance festival in Kuchipudi village in 2000, the birthplace of the dance form. She has taken on lead roles in several ballets, including “Menaka Vishwamitra” (choreographed by Dr. Vempati), “Swapna Vijayam” (a Kuchipudi adaptation of The Nutcracker), “Mahishasura Mardhini,” and “Girija Kalyanam.” In 2016, she performed in the "Natyasravanti" series in Vijayawada. In 1996, Hima Bindu Challa relocated to the USA after her marriage. Driven by her passion for Kuchipudi, she established the "Nrityananda School of Kuchipudi" in 2004, where she continues to impart her knowledge and expertise to aspiring dancers.
