Imran Syafiq Mohd Affandi, born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is a prominent Malay Bharatanatyam dancer and a significant figure in the Malaysian dance scene. He is an alumnus of the Malaysian National Arts Academy (ASWARA), where he earned a Diploma in Dance, graduating as the Best Dance Graduate in 2012. He furthered his education at ASWARA, obtaining a Bachelor of Dance (Performance) with First Class Honours and being recognized as Valedictorian in 2015. His versatility as a dancer is evident in his diverse performance background, which includes extensive participation in major Malaysian festivals and productions by ASWARA's dance faculty, KLPAC, Dua Space Dance Theatre, Yayasan Warisan Johor, Blossom Arts Festival, and various ballet productions. Internationally, Imran Syafiq has showcased his talent in countries such as Papua New Guinea, Japan, Indonesia, Australia, Singapore, USA, India, Cambodia, and Korea. In 2014, he was awarded the Consolation Prize at the 17th Solo Classical Ballet Competition. A significant milestone in his Indian classical dance journey was the completion of his Bharatanatyam Arangetram in 2017. He was also featured in the "Crossing Borders in Bharatanatyam" performance in December 2017, which highlighted non-Indian graduates from ASWARA's Dance Faculty performing under the guidance of Shankar Kandasamy. Imran Syafiq is a key member of the ASK Dance Company (ADC), Malaysia's eminent dance company, where he has performed extensively. In 2016, he assumed the role of Director at ADC, overseeing flagship outreach programs such as Building Bridges, Get Malaysia Dancing, Connecting Communities, and Forging Traditions. As part of ASK Dance Company, he is also involved in providing training, workshops, and master classes in various dance genres, including Bharatanatyam.
