🪔 About
J. Jeya Sanggari is a dedicated Bharatanatyam dancer and educator, primarily based in Cheras, Malaysia. Her foundational training culminated in her arangetram, a significant debut solo performance, which she completed under the esteemed guidance of the Temple of Fine Arts Malaysia. This institution is renowned for its commitment to preserving and promoting traditional Indian arts. Furthering her academic and artistic pursuits, Jeya Sanggari achieved a Master's degree in dance, specializing in Bharatanatyam, from the prestigious Annamalai University in Chidambaram, India. Her advanced studies were made possible through a scholarship awarded by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), an arm of the Indian Government, which she received in 2009 to pursue her graduation in Dance (Bharatanatyam). This sponsorship highlights her recognized talent and potential in the field. As an active figure in the Malaysian Indian classical dance scene, Jeya Sanggari has established "JS Fine Arts." Through this institution, she offers comprehensive training in a variety of Indian classical arts. Her curriculum includes Bharatanatyam, the intricate art of Nattuvanggam (the rhythmic vocal accompaniment for dance), Yoga, Carnatic Vocal music (Sangeetham), and instrumental lessons such as Mridangam, Tabla, and Thala. Additionally, she provides Tamil language classes, reflecting a holistic approach to cultural education. Jeya Sanggari is actively involved in nurturing new talent, regularly conducting workshops and organizing annual performances for her students, thereby contributing to the vibrant cultural landscape of Malaysia. While she is recognized as a Bharatanatyam guru, current public records, such as the NatyaNetwork lineage map, do not yet extensively document her students or a broader teaching lineage, suggesting her career as a prominent teacher with numerous documented disciples is still evolving. She has also participated in cultural initiatives, such as the "Why I Dance" project by Indian Raga and Kalanidhi Dance, sharing her personal connection and passion for the art form.
