Jagannath Lairenjam is a distinguished figure in the realm of Indian classical dance, specifically renowned for his mastery of the Manipuri dance form. He is a direct disciple of the legendary Guru Bipin Singh, a pivotal master who significantly contributed to the preservation, systematization, and promotion of Manipuri dance throughout the 20th century. Lairenjam's training under such an eminent guru underscores his deep understanding and adherence to the traditional aesthetics and spiritual foundations of the art form. As a talented Manipuri drum dancer, Lairenjam is particularly noted for his performances of 'pung cholom' and 'mridang vadan,' showcasing his expertise in playing the traditional Manipuri drum (pung) and cymbals (kartal).
