🪔 About

Guru Jayashankar Menon is a highly respected performer, teacher, and scholar of Bharatanatyam, born in 1944 in Irinjalakuda, near Trichur in Kerala, India. His journey in classical dance began with Kathakali, which he learned under Guru Kalamandalam Karunakaran. He then delved into Bharatanatyam, acquiring its fundamentals from Guru Paramasivam Pillai of Tanjore, also referred to as Guru Paramashivam. His training in Bharatanatyam continued systematically for over two decades under the late Guru Govindarajan, who was also a notable music composer, lyricist, and choreographer. Throughout his career, Shri Menon has captivated audiences with his performances at prestigious events such as the annual Swathithirunal and Nisha Gandhi festivals. He has also been featured in the National Programme of Dance on Doordarshan, India's public service broadcaster. Known for his in-depth research and innovative contributions to Bharatanatyam, Guru Jayashankar Menon has significantly enriched the art form. He is not only a reputed dancer but also an eminent teacher, having founded "Nritya," an institution of classical dances in Delhi. Under the banner of Nritya, he has dedicated himself to teaching Bharatanatyam to a large number of students, fostering the next generation of dancers. Awards & Honours: Pravasi Kalashree award (2014).
