🪔 About
Jessica Albrent is an American Bharatanatyam dancer who embarked on her journey into Indian classical dance as an adult. She began her Bharatanatyam training in Tanzania with her first guru, Anu Siva. Later, she underwent intensive training in India under the tutelage of Bharatanatyam exponents N. Srikanth and Aswathy Nair of the Nrityalaya School of Classical Dance and Music in Kozhikode, Kerala. After two years of dedicated practice, she performed her arangetram, her professional debut, in January 2013 at Tagore Hall in Kozhikode, India, at the age of 30. Her commitment to the art form is notable, as she achieved her arangetram in a relatively short period compared to many students. Albrent views Bharatanatyam not just as a performance art but as a spiritual practice, a prayer, and an offering to the gods, aiming for a closer connection between the dancer and the divine. She has expressed the physical and emotional challenges of the dance, particularly as an adult learner, but emphasizes its positive impact on her life, providing strength, focus, and self-discovery. Beyond her dance pursuits, Jessica Albrent also has a background in international education and holds an EdD, currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Lahore University of Management Sciences.
