Jibanjit Dutta, a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, particularly Sattriya, was born on February 1, 1955, in Garamur Sattra, Majuli. He received his foundational training in Sattriya Dance and Drama under the guidance of the esteemed Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, Adhyapak Roseswar Saikia Borbayan. Further honing his skills, he also received lessons from Nrityacharyee Jatin Goswami of Guwahati. His passion for dance extended beyond Sattriya, leading him to explore other creative dance forms under the tutelage of Late Nabin Chandra Bora. Dutta was known for his ability to balance his passion with his profession. He completed a Ph.D. in performing arts and was notably the only male Sattriya dancer to have cleared the UGC NTA NET. He established the Natan Sattriya Academy, where he dedicated himself to imparting training to numerous aspiring talents. Beyond his teaching at the academy, he also served as a visiting lecturer at Dibrugarh University. In his professional life, Jibanjit Dutta retired in 2015 as an Assistant Producer from the Directorate of Information and Public Relation, Government of Assam. He held several significant cultural roles, including being a member of the scholarship selecting committee of C.C.R.T. New Delhi, the Secretary of Sadou Asom Sattriya Sangeet Sikshak Samaj, and a member of Srimanta Sankardev Kristi Sangha, Garamur Sattra, Majuli. His dedication to the art form was recognized posthumously with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi award in 2016. Jibanjit Dutta passed away on February 29, 2016, leaving behind a rich legacy that is actively carried forward by his son, Borish Dutta. Awards & Honours: Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2016).
