Born in Birmingham, UK, Jyoti Lata Parwana commenced her Bharatanatyam training at the tender age of six under the tutelage of her Guru, Smt. Chitraleka Bolar. Her dedication to the art form was recognized early in her career when, in 2000, she was honored with the Millennium Award from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) for being the most promising young dancer in Bharatanatyam. Jyoti successfully completed her Arangetram, her debut solo performance, in 2007. Following her Arangetram, Parwana has actively participated in numerous dance productions, collaborating with esteemed companies such as Chitraleka Dance Company, Sampad, Nritarutya, and Moby Duck. Her commitment to artistic development led her to receive the prestigious Lisa Ullmann Travelling Scholarship Fund in 2012. Utilizing this scholarship, Jyoti embarked on a journey to India, where she further enriched her understanding of classical dance and expanded her repertoire. The subsequent year, in 2013, her talent was once again acknowledged when she was selected as a finalist for the Nritya Ratna Award, presented by Milapfest, recognizing her as a promising young dancer of the year in classical dance. Beyond her significant contributions to dance, Jyoti Lata Parwana is also a qualified dentist. Despite her professional career, she maintains a strong aspiration to continuously evolve her dance vocabulary and creative expression, aiming to choreograph innovative dance pieces that resonate with both contemporary and traditional audiences.
