Kalamandalam K. G. Vasudevan Nair, also known as K. K. G. Vasudevan Nair, is a renowned Kathakali dancer from Kerala, India. Born in 1937 in Keerikkad, Alappuzha district, he dedicated his life to this classical art form. He began his Kathakali training at the tender age of 11 under Guru Evoor Raghavan Pillai, making his debut as Krishna in Gurudakshina at the Evur Sree Krishna Temple. He further honed his skills under K. R. Kumaran Nair and Vazhenkada Kunchu Nair before joining Kerala Kalamandalam at the age of 14 for a post-diploma in Kathakali, where he was guided by eminent gurus like Ramankutty Nair and Padmanabhan Nair. Vasudevan Nair is a master of the Kalluvazhi style of Kathakali, known for his exceptional portrayal of both Pacha (pious, gentle, noble) and Kathi (anti-heroes, negative) characters. His notable roles include Rukmangada, Nala, Krishna, Kichaka, Ravana, Urvashi, Lalitha, Damayanti, and Mohini. He has performed and given lecture-demonstrations across India, various European countries, and the United States, sharing the nuances of Kathakali with international audiences. Beyond performing, Vasudevan Nair has significantly contributed to teaching, serving as a Kathakali teacher at the Gandhi Seva Sadan Kathakali Academy and Vellinezhi Government High School. He is also a member of the Governing Body of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi. His contributions to Kathakali have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2010.
