Kalamandalam Pradeep Kumar, a distinguished Kathakali artist, was born on May 10, 1973, in Kerala, specifically Palakkad. He embarked on his rigorous training in Kathakali at the esteemed Kerala Kalamandalam in Cheruthuruthy, where he completed a six-year diploma course followed by post-graduation in the art form. During his studies, he was a recipient of a scholarship from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. His training was further enriched under the tutelage of renowned gurus including K.G. Vasudevan Nair, Kalamandalam Padmanabhan Nair, Kalamandalam Gopalakrishnan, and Vazhenkada Vijayan. Pradeep Kumar is celebrated for his masterful portrayal of various Kathakali roles, particularly his acclaimed presentations of Paccha, Kathi, and Vellathadi characters. His artistic journey has seen him perform extensively, both within India and across international stages, contributing significantly to the global appreciation of Kathakali. A notable highlight of his career occurred in June 2014, when he achieved a remarkable feat by setting a Limca Book of Records. This involved a marathon ten-hour, non-stop performance titled 'Dashasyam,' where he compellingly enacted the entire life of the epic character Ravana. Beyond his performing career, Kalamandalam Pradeep Kumar is also a dedicated educator. He currently imparts his knowledge and expertise in Kathakali as a teacher at the Vijnana Kalavedi Culture Centre located in Aranmula, Kerala. His contributions to the art form have been recognized with several prestigious accolades, including the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in 2006 from the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the K.K. Raja Memorial Chilliyattam Award, the Vazhenkada Kunchu Nair Award, and an award from the Kottakkal Krishnan Kutty Nair Endowment. He also received the K.V. Kochaniyan Award.
