Kalamandalam Sivadas is a distinguished Indian classical dancer, renowned for his expertise in Kathakali, the traditional dance-drama of Kerala. Born on May 31, 1967, in Sankaramangalam, Palakkad District, Kerala, India, he is the son of the late K.P. Radhakrishnan Nair and U. Devaki Amma. His artistic journey began with intensive training at the esteemed Kerala Kalamandalam, a premier institution for traditional performing arts. Here, he successfully completed a six-year Diploma in 'Kathakali Vesham' (the acting and character portrayal aspect of Kathakali) with first-class honors, followed by a two-year Post Diploma, also achieving first-class distinction. His commitment to mastering the art form was further recognized with a Central Government Scholarship, which enabled him to continue his advanced studies at Kerala Kalamandalam for an additional two years. Kalamandalam Sivadas commenced his practice of Kathakali in 1982 and made his debut stage performance in 1984. As of March 2014, he had accumulated 32 years of experience in the field, showcasing his enduring dedication. His illustrious career as a Kathakali performer has seen him grace stages across India and in numerous countries worldwide. He has performed extensively in foreign nations, including France, Italy, Holland, Spain, Reunion, Russia, Australia, Kuwait, the USA, and Germany, contributing to the global recognition of Kathakali. In addition to his performing career, Sivadas has also played a role in nurturing new talent. He served as a temporary teacher at Kerala Kalamandalam, sharing his profound knowledge and practical experience with aspiring Kathakali artists. He is primarily based in Palakkad, Kerala, India. His contributions to Kathakali as both a performer and an educator solidify his position as a significant figure in Indian classical dance.
