Karishma Desai is an Indian classical dancer specializing in Bharatanatyam. She began her training at the age of three, studying Bharatanatyam for 16 years under the tutelage of her mother and guru, Karnataka Kalashree Supriya Desai, who is the Artistic Director of The Payal Academy of Dance in Cary, North Carolina, USA. Karishma Desai had her arangetram (debut performance) on October 7, 2006, at the age of 15. She has performed Bharatanatyam recitals, including a notable exposition of the adi tala varna in Kharaharapriya, “Rama Neeve,” in January 2010. Desai has been based in the U.S.A., residing in Raleigh, NC, and later moving to Boston for graduate studies. She was also a member of Boston University Dheem, a competitive classical Indian dance team that focuses on Bharatanatyam. While her mother has a significant teaching legacy, the sources suggest Karishma is expected to continue this legacy, training a new generation of dancers at The Payal Academy of Dance.
