Saee Sane is an emerging Kathak dancer based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Her journey in Indian classical dance began in early 2016 when she commenced weekly Kathak classes under the tutelage of Dr. Helena Joshi. By the end of the same year, Sane embarked on an intensive two-week training period in Pune, India, studying directly with the renowned Guru Prerana Deshpande. She has consistently continued her lessons with Dr. Joshi in Australia and has sought further opportunities to learn from Guru Prerana Deshpande, including a visit by her Guru to Brisbane in late 2017 for a few days of instruction. More recently, in May 2026, Sane participated in a 3-day intensive Kathak retreat in Pondicherry, India, where she danced alongside fellow students and immersed herself in nature with Guru Prerana Deshpande and her disciples from across India. During an in-house performance at the retreat, Sane performed Jhaptaal with other students and collectively presented a tarana they had learned. As of 2019, while still attending high school, Sane demonstrated a strong commitment to her art form, investing approximately four hours weekly in classes and an additional one to two hours in personal practice (Riaaz) in Australia. She also makes regular trips to India, visiting every alternate year for a few weeks to learn from her Guru, with aspirations for annual independent travel to further her training in the traditional guru-shishya parampara. Sane is associated with Infinity Kathak and has performed at various events, including the 17th Annual Ashu Babu Memorial Tabla School Concert, where she was accompanied by live musicians. She also performed a classic musical piece and thumri at the Vishu festival promoted by the Brisbane OHM society. Her artistic expressions extend beyond dance, as she has created Krishna-Radha inspired paintings, with some pieces directly influenced by a Jhoolata Thumri learned from Guru Prerana Deshpande. In 2019, the QLD Sangeet Mela Association recognized her as a "Rising Star" in Kathak dance. Sane views her learning in Kathak as a lifelong endeavor.
