Lakshmi Mani is a highly acclaimed Indian classical dancer and choreographer, celebrated for her profound understanding and exquisite performances in both Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. She underwent rigorous training in Bharatanatyam under the tutelage of the doyenne Guru Smt. K.J. Sarasa. For Kuchipudi, she received intensive training from the illustrious Guru Shri. Vempati Chinna Satyam, who she describes as a perfectionist, disciplinarian, workaholic, and a father-figure. Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam recognized her potential for Kuchipudi, particularly her countenance and Telugu background, which he felt would enhance her interpretation of the lyrics. Lakshmi Mani is regarded as one of the outstanding exponents of Kuchipudi, particularly lauded for her exquisite Abhinaya (expressions). Her virtuosity is evident in her recitals of traditional items and her innovative choreographic pursuits within the classical framework. Her choreographies encompass a wide spectrum of compositions by revered composers such as Kshetrayya, Oothukkadu Venkata Subbaiyer, Maharaja Swathi Thirunal, Annamacharya, Thyagaraja, Jayadeva, and Narayana Teertha. Notably, her solo presentation 'Godaanjali,' based on the Telugu translation of Andal's Tiruppavai, is a significant work. As a cultural ambassador, Lakshmi Mani has captivated audiences globally in countries like the USA, Sri Lanka, the former USSR, and Canada. She has also performed extensively across India, participating in renowned dance festivals such as Khajuraho, Mamallapuram, Konark, Kuchipudi, Tirupati, Chidambaram, and Bengaluru. She is frequently invited by cultural organizations and dance schools worldwide to conduct master-workshops, lecture-demonstrations, and to judge competitions. She trains a select group of dedicated students from various parts of the world.
