Lavanya Mahadevan is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer, educator, and choreographer, primarily based in Edison, New Jersey, USA. She is the founder and artistic director of the Kala Aradhana Dance and Music Academy, an institution established in 2008 with a commitment to providing high-quality and accessible Indian classical dance and music education to students of all ages. Lavanya's comprehensive training includes a Master's Degree in Bharatanatyam from Nagpur University and a diploma in Carnatic music (vocal), reflecting her deep understanding of Indian classical arts. Her talent and dedication were recognized early in her career when she was awarded a National Scholarship for Dance (T&C). Lavanya made her formal debut with her Arangetram in February 2001, which marked the beginning of her performing career. Over the years, she has graced the stages of numerous prestigious dance festivals across India, including the renowned Kalidas Mahotsav, Ghunghroo Festival, and Khajuraho Festival. Beyond her performances in India, Lavanya continues to be an active and celebrated artist, captivating audiences with her Bharatanatyam recitals across the tri-state area of New Jersey. With over 15 years of experience in teaching Bharatanatyam, encompassing both private classes and instruction in public schools, Lavanya has cultivated a significant teaching legacy. She imparts her knowledge and passion for Bharatanatyam, as well as folk dance and vocal music, to students in Edison, Metuchen, and Parlin, New Jersey. Through Kala Aradhana, she fosters a nurturing environment that encourages artistic growth and a deep appreciation for Indian cultural heritage, making her a pivotal figure in the Indian classical dance community in the United States.
