Madhuvanthi Sundararajan is an accomplished Indian classical dancer, choreographer, and teacher specializing in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. Her journey in classical dance began at the tender age of six, laying the foundation for a dedicated career in the art form. She pursued her academic training in Bharatanatyam, earning a Master of Arts degree from the University of Pune, where her exceptional talent and academic prowess were recognized with a Gold Medal for ranking first in her program. For a decade, she honed her Bharatanatyam skills under the tutelage of Guru Dr. Parimal Phadke. More recently, Sundararajan has expanded her artistic repertoire to include Kuchipudi, undertaking an apprenticeship with Kasi Aysola, which has significantly enriched her artistic growth and opened new avenues for her performances. She is actively involved in the dance community in the United States, having moved to the country around 2016, initially working as a teacher for the Mudra Arts Center. She is currently based in Maryland, USA, where she continues to teach, choreograph, and perform. Throughout her career, Madhuvanthi Sundararajan has graced numerous stages both in India and the USA. Her performances include notable appearances at the Cuttack Mahotsav in Orissa, India, in 2016, and the DCIDR showcase in Pune, India, in 2017. In the USA, she performed at the Haridasa festival organized by SSVT Maryland in October 2018. In June 2020, she presented a Bharatanatyam recital for Sahityakalp Kalasadhana, featuring traditional pieces such as Pushpanjali, Kautuvam, Javali, Abhang, and Thillana. She also participated in the ResiliDance festival hosted by the Indian Dance Educators Association (IDEA) in the DC metro area in April 2021, a virtual event designed to unite the global Indian classical dance community. Sundararajan is also known for her work as part of the duo Nritya Amita and frequently shares her practice and performance excerpts on social media, showcasing her dedication to both Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. She continues to choreograph and perform, with upcoming shows scheduled, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to promoting Indian classical dance. Awards & Honours: Gold Medal.
