🪔 About
Mahasweta Dutt is a Kathak dancer and teaching faculty member at Courtyard Dancers in Philadelphia, USA. Her journey in Kathak began at the age of five, with her early training under Keka Sinha in Bombay, which continued until she was fifteen years old. After a ten-year hiatus, Dutt resumed her Kathak studies in 2009, joining Pallabi Chakravorty in Philadelphia. In 2011, Mahasweta Dutt began her teaching career, instructing the Kathak beginners class at Courtyard Dancers. She is passionate about Kathak, viewing it as a dance form that embodies strength, grace, and a complex history, and one that is constantly evolving. Beyond her dedication to Kathak, Dutt also maintains a full-time career in science, specifically in clinical research. As a performer, Mahasweta Dutt has been featured in productions by Courtyard Dancers. She performed in the dance-theater piece "Birds in Circled Flight," which was presented in May 2022 and again in November 2023 at the Facing East festival in Philadelphia. This piece, conceptualized and choreographed by Pallabi Chakravorty, combined Armenian music with Ghazal, Tagore, and Kathak. Dutt continues to contribute to the Kathak community through both her teaching and performances, sharing her knowledge and passion for the art form.
