Maithreyi Barve is a prominent Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and Assistant Director at the Academy of Bharata Natyam in Bangalore, India. She represents the fourth generation of a distinguished Guru-Shishya Parampara, carrying forward her family's rich tradition in Indian classical dance. Maithreyi is the daughter and disciple of renowned Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and composer Gayathri Keshavan. Academically, Maithreyi holds a Commerce degree and a Master's Degree in Bharata Natyam. Her comprehensive artistic training also includes Carnatic Music, which she studied under Smt. Saraswati Ananthakrishnan and her mother, Gayathri Keshavan. With twenty-five years of experience in the field, Maithreyi has contributed to the art form in various capacities. Her career has seen her perform and teach Bharatanatyam internationally, with engagements in Mexico, England, and Singapore. She is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of dancers, instilling a love for the art in young children through her passionate teaching. Maithreyi has also performed in significant productions, including "Sri Vishwanatham" in 2012 and "Kamakshi Amba" in 2014. In March 2024, she performed alongside her mother and daughter, Ananya Barve, in a Bharatanatyam recital presented by the Academy of Bharata Natyam. Her daughter, Ananya Barve, is also a Bharatanatyam dancer, having completed her Arangetram at the age of 16, continuing the family's artistic legacy.
