🪔 About
Marilyn Garcia Bernard is a French Indian classical dancer and teacher specializing in Odissi. She began her training in Indian classical dance, specifically Odissi, in 1994 with the notable Indian dancer and storyteller Flora Devi. Her dedication to the art form led her to India, where she continued her intensive training from 1996 onwards. In India, she studied with esteemed Odissi gurus such as Shankar Behera in Mumbai and Samaru Meher. Beyond Odissi, Marilyn Garcia Bernard also expanded her repertoire to include other Indian dance styles, studying Kathak, various folk dances, and Bollywood dance forms. Since 2000, Marilyn Garcia Bernard has been based in the south of France, where she has established herself as a prominent teacher and performer of Indian dance. She imparts her knowledge to a diverse range of students, including teenagers, adults, and children. Her teaching extends to workshops titled "Discovering India through storytelling, theatrical mime, dance and Indian gestures," which she conducts in primary schools and institutes across France, as well as in international schools in Monaco. Her performance career began in 1997, featuring numerous solo, duo, and group presentations. Notably, she performed alongside Flora Devi in the contemporary show "Utopia," which opened for a David Guetta concert in Nice, France, on June 21, 2004. In 2008, she founded her own dance company, "Indian Dance Navrasa," dedicated to traditional and Bollywood dance styles, showcasing her original choreographic compositions. Since 2010, she has performed with her company, often collaborating with the live music group "Chaar Masala." Her artistic endeavors also include filming the clip "Meri Baya" in 2017 with Charline Rémy and participating in events like the "Soirée Indienne" in Le Cannet in 2019, featuring Odissi, Bharatanatyam, and Bollywood performances.
