🪔 About

Meenakshi Seshadri, born Shashikala Seshadri on November 16, 1963, in Sindri, Bihar (now Jharkhand), is an accomplished Indian classical dancer and former actress. She began her dance training at a very young age, reportedly at one year old, receiving foundational exposure to music, dance, and acting within her family, as her mother, Sundari Sheshadri, was a Bharatanatyam dancer who ran dance classes. She received formal training in four Indian classical dance forms: Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, and Odissi, under the tutelage of renowned gurus Vempati Chinna Satyam and Jaya Rama Rao. Prior to her acting career, Seshadri won the Eve's Weekly Miss India contest in 1981 at the age of 17 and represented India at Miss International 1981 in Tokyo. She made her debut in films in 1983 and became one of the leading and highest-paid actresses of the late 1980s and early 1990s, known for her beauty, versatile performances, and accomplished dancing in numerous Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil films. Her role in the 1993 film "Damini" is considered a career-defining performance. She also performed at the Khajuraho Dance Festival in the 1990s. After marrying investment banker Harish Mysore in 1995, Meenakshi Seshadri retired from the film industry and relocated to the United States to raise her children. She settled in Plano, Texas, where she established her own dance school, the Cherish Dance School (also known as Cherish Institute of Dance), teaching Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Odissi. Through her academy, she aimed to continue and extend Indian classical dance culture in a foreign land, bringing Bharatanatyam and Kathak to a new generation of Indian-American children. She has since shifted to Washington D.C.. A documentary titled "Meenakshi Accept Her Wings" was made about her life in 2006. Awards & Honours: Eve's Weekly Miss India (1981), Smita Patil Memorial Award (1993).
