Smt. Priya Murle is a highly renowned Indian classical Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and choreographer, with a career spanning over four decades. She is a senior disciple of Professor Sudharani Raghupathy, under whom she received intense training and developed a special niche in the field of natyam. Murle also trained in Carnatic Vocal music under the esteemed Padmabhushan Vidwan Sri Madurai N. Krishnan. Her academic pursuits include an M.Phil in Philosophy, with a focus on Indian Aesthetics and Rasa Theory. As a performer, Priya Murle has traveled globally, presenting performances, lecture demonstrations, and workshops. She is also a prolific choreographer, having created several thematic and group programs. Murle is the Artistic Director of Shri Silambam and serves as the Vice President of the Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India (ABHAI). Her contributions to the art form have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Yuva Kala Bharathi, Nadanamamani, Vani Kala Nipuna, Bharatakala Bhushana, and the Rukmini Devi Arudale Award from Sri Krishna Gana Sabha. In 2019, she was honored with the Kalaimamani Title, a prestigious award from the Tamil Nadu State Government. Beyond performing, Murle is dedicated to dance education. She has trained many international students, served as faculty for students from Colgate University, Hamilton, NY, and was part of the Bharatanatyam faculty at Women's Christian College in Chennai. She also conducted the Ranga Pravesham for a US diplomat in 2020 and is a guest faculty at Silambam, Houston. Murle co-founded the Parivartan Research Initiative, which offers annual short-term grants for research scholars.
