Sayani Roy is a passionate and dedicated Indian classical dancer, teacher, and choreographer, primarily based in Leeds, United Kingdom, where she actively promotes Odissi Indian classical dance within the city and its surrounding areas. Her extensive journey in dance began at an early age under the tutelage of her mother, Sujata Ghosh. She further honed her skills with esteemed gurus, including the Gurukul of Kelucharan Mahapatra, Dr. Rina Jana, and Enakshi Sinha in Canada. In addition to her profound expertise in Odissi, Sayani Roy is also a trained Kathak dancer and teacher, boasting over 12 years of experience in this classical form. She has accumulated over 15 years of experience as a trained Odissi dancer, teacher, and choreographer. Throughout her career, Sayani Roy has been recognized for her talent and dedication. She is a Gold Medalist in Odissi from Bangiya Dance Sangeet Parishad, West Bengal, and holds a Sangeet Visharad in Kathak from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. Her accolades also include securing second place in the Eastern Zone (5th-year exam) in 2009-10 and achieving third place in Odissi at the Rajya Chhatra-Yuva Utsav statewide competition in West Bengal in 2006, an award presented by the Government of West Bengal. As an educator, Sayani Roy serves as an Artistic Director and online teacher at Hindol Dance and Music College in India. In Leeds, she leads Odissi classes at South Asian Arts, offering a deep dive into the graceful and expressive classical dance form. Her choreographic work extends to multiple companies and productions in India, and she has performed with renowned dance troupes in both India and Dubai.
